Vietnam veterans who served in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps., and their families, will be honored Wednesday at noon on the 50th commemoration of the war, according to Massapequa U.S. Rep. Andrew Garbarino.

The purpose of the event is to thank and honor Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the nation, Garbarino’s Office said.

Over 20 veterans and their families are expected to attend and receive a commemorative lapel pin and Congressional Certificate of Recognition by the congressman.

Central Islip’s downtown has taken another step toward revitalization with the securing of funding to pay for a new sewer line.

Islip Town announced Thursday that it is receiving $3 million in federal funding toward the line, which will run more than half a mile down Carleton Avenue, from Suffolk Avenue south to Smith Street. Sewer infrastructure is considered a crucial part of the town’s plans for $10 million in state Downtown Revitalization Initiative, or DRI, funds, which it received in 2018.

The U.S. House Veterans’ Affairs Committee recently approved three bipartisan bills offered by U.S. Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) that support America’s military veterans, advancing the measures to the U.S. House of Representatives for action.

“I am pleased that my bills were passed by the committee, and I will continue to push for critical reforms like those offered in this legislation on behalf of our veterans,” Rep. Garbarino said last week.
