Homeland Security

As Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, I am committed to defending our nation against cyber threats, combating terrorism, securing our border, and ensuring the safety of the American people. 2,977 Americans were killed in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001, and countless families across our community continue to live with the consequences. “Never forget” is not just a slogan, it is a promise that I have carried with me throughout my public service, and it is the driving force behind my work to strengthen our homeland every single day.

Terrorism remains one of New York’s greatest threats, and I am determined to counter all attacks from foreign and domestic adversaries. As we continue to face these dangers, Americans rely on the dedicated work of our nation’s Homeland Security professionals to keep us safe. I will always stand with these men and women on the front lines and provide the oversight, resources, and support they need to do their jobs effectively.

Securing our border is a national security imperative. Under my leadership, the Committee will continue working to stop the flow of fentanyl into our communities, dismantle human trafficking networks, and strengthen enforcement against illegal immigration.

Long Islanders also know firsthand the devastation caused by natural disasters. More than a decade after Superstorm Sandy, many families are still coping with its aftermath, and our region remains vulnerable to future storms and flooding. I am committed to ensuring that the Department of Homeland Security supports recovery efforts and invests in preparedness to keep communities safe when the next disaster strikes.

Just as we face physical threats, our homeland also faces an unprecedented wave of cyberattacks. From energy to financial services to local school districts, no part of American life is immune. Cybersecurity is now the preeminent challenge of our time. As Chairman, I will continue to advance legislation and oversight to secure our digital and physical infrastructure against hostile actors.
