A constituent contacted my office with a treasured recording from the 1970s of his grandmother recounting her journey in 1884 at the age of 14, traveling from Germany to America and entering through Ellis Island by boat. My team reached out to the Library of Congress, which recommended that the constituent contact the National Immigration Museum at Ellis Island. The museum’s oral history project accepts submissions, offering a unique way to preserve and share this remarkable family story.

A recently deceased Sayville Army veteran had wanted to be buried in the Long Island National Cemetery, but the cemetery is closed for new burials. His brother, however, was already buried there and the family had a second spot open next to him. My casework team was able to work with the VA National Cemetery Administration to get the family the necessary paperwork to ensure the recently deceased veteran was eligible to be buried in the VA cemetery. He has since been put to rest beside his brother.

A Brightwaters resident contacted my office regarding a situation she was experiencing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). For tax years 2017 - 2019 she was due refunds and didn't submit her returns right away because she understood she had up to 3 years to file returns when a refund is due. In April 2021 she filed all past year returns but was having trouble receiving her returns.
