A constituent contacted my office for help with a delayed Social Security benefits application. Originally submitted in March 2024, the application had been directed to the Federal Benefits Unit (FBU) at the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, as the constituent was residing overseas at the time. Significant processing delays and a lack of updates from the Social Security Administration (SSA) had left the application unresolved. My casework team stepped in to address the miscommunication between the SSA and the FBU. As a result, the constituent received a retroactive payment for the delay, and regular monthly benefits are now scheduled to begin in February 2025.

These errors, entered by a retired administrator, were affecting his Commercial Driver’s License status, and the new administrator was unable to make the necessary corrections. After my casework team intervened, the U.S. Department of Transportation worked with the Town’s new administrator to quickly resolve the issue, restoring the employee’s license status.

A Central Islip resident contacted my office for assistance in ensuring her deceased uncle, a World War II veteran, could be interred at Calverton National Cemetery with military honors. The process was complicated by her inability to obtain the necessary death certificate, as she was not a sibling, spouse, or child of the deceased. My casework team reached out to the National Cemetery Eligibility Verification Division to clarify requirements and find a solution. Earlier this month, the veteran was interred at Calverton with the full military honors he deserved.

A constituent reached out to my office for help securing an increase in Social Security benefits for her sister. The sister, who serves as the legal guardian of the 61-year-old beneficiary, was seeking increased monthly benefits. Since the age of 4, the beneficiary had been receiving benefits through her deceased mother, with her father serving as her caregiver. After her father passed away in 2023, she became eligible for additional benefits. My casework team got involved and discovered the matter was delayed at the Determining Disability Unit due to a backlog. Following the inquiry from Andrew's office, the additional benefits were approved.
