Rep. Garbarino's Statement on Cyber-Attack Against Colonial Pipeline

May 8, 2021

WASHINGTON - The largest pipeline in the United States, the Colonial Pipeline, has been targeted by a cyber-attack which has resulted in the shutdown of the 5,500 miles of pipeline from Texas to New York responsible for the transport of 45 percent of the East Coast’s fuel supplies.

Rep. Andrew Garbarino, Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security's Committee's Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, & Innovation, issued the following statement:

"Cyber-attacks are a preeminent threat to our national security. This was not just an attack on Colonial Pipeline, but on every American who relies on the fuel provided by the pipeline. While we don't yet know the full details surrounding this event, I will stay in contact with CISA regarding its response efforts and look forward to working with them to prepare for, respond to, and mitigate against future attacks of this nature."
