Rep. Garbarino Issues Statement Following His Vote Against Democrats’ Gun Control Package
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following tonight’s vote in the House of Representatives against H.R. 7910, Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY-02) issued the following statement:
“We are a nation in mourning following the horrific mass murders in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas. There is little doubt that something must be done curb the scourge of gun violence throughout our country. Going to school or shopping for groceries should never be a death sentence.
“H.R. 7910 will do nothing to protect our children from gun violence – period. This package of gun control measures fails to address the root causes of gun violence and stands no chance of passing the Senate or becoming law. In fact, rushing through this partisan package could jeopardize ongoing negotiations between Senate Republicans and Democrats who are working to find common ground and build a compromise that may actually make it to the President’s desk.
“It is essential that we find actionable bipartisan solutions to stem the tide of mass shootings in America while also safeguarding the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners. I look forward to reviewing the forthcoming proposal from the Senate to this end.”
