Garbarino's Statement on Government Funding Packages
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY-02) released the below statement following votes on two government funding packages passed by the House of Representatives on March 9, 2022.
“We are a nation under heightened threat as Russian aggression spikes and the border and crime crises spiral out of control. I was proud to cast my vote for the security appropriations package which provides vital funding for law enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, and increased pay for military servicemembers. This crucial legislation strengthens our national security with funding for cybersecurity programs to mitigate cyber threats from Russia and other foreign adversaries and aid to help Ukraine beat back the Russian onslaught. Now is a time for vigilance and the passage of this legislation will bolster our defenses in the face of rising threats.
“I could not, in good conscious, vote for the Democrats’ bloated Omnibus funding package. At a time when inflation is at a 40-year high and gas prices are nearing $5 per gallon, this massive spending package does nothing to address the most dire issues facing our country. It increases spending by $46 billion, yet does nothing to address outrageously high prices at the pump or reverse Biden’s anti-American energy policies which caused the problem. It fails to support 9/11 families or provide desperately needed relief funding to restaurants who are still struggling to recover from forced closures and COVID restrictions on their businesses.
“Now that these votes are behind us, I hope Congress turns quickly and deliberately to tackling the many crises facing this country and fortifying America’s economic, energy, and national security.”
