Garbarino Statement on Partisan $1.9 Trillion Package

March 1, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Garbarino issued the following statement after voting against the partisan $1.9 trillion package.

“Americans deserve targeted relief for their families, their communities, and their businesses who are continuing to struggle. Instead of proposing a bill that does just that, Democrats passed a partisan $1.9 trillion package that focuses more on enacting bad policies than providing relief.

“Less than 9% of funding in this bill goes to combatting COVID-19. That leaves over 90% of funding for programs and policies unrelated to beating this pandemic – from job-destroying policies that would crush our economy to bailing out states whose policies have shutdown thousands of small businesses and kept schools closed. While I support aspects in the bill that provide relief for small businesses and our local governments and municipalities, Congress cannot continue to reward mismanagement by handing blank checks to states.

“If our number one priority is defeating COVID-19 and returning our country back to normal, then a relief bill should solely focus on improving testing and vaccine distribution, sending our children back to school, and safely re-opening our economy. We must learn to work together in order to deliver meaningful results for our communities, hospitals, and businesses and defeat this invisible enemy once and for all.”
