March 19, 2021

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Andrew Garbarino announced the start of the inaugural New York 2nd Congressional District Art Competition, with the theme of “What makes your hometown great.” The contest provides students across the district with the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents, both in their community and in Washington, D.C.

“I’m excited to announce the first annual Art Competition for New York’s Second Congressional District,” said Congressman Garbarino. “This is a welcome opportunity for students across the district to showcase their artistic talents and love for their communities, and I look forward to seeing all of the beautiful artwork submitted.”

The Congressional Art Competition, which began in 1982, is an annual contest run by the U.S. House of Representatives where high school students from across the country are invited to showcase their artistic abilities. In keeping with the tradition, Congressman Garbarino launched the first annual Congressional Art Competition for the New York’s 2nd Congressional District.

The Congressional Art Competition is open to high school students in New York’s 2nd Congressional District. The first-place winner’s artwork will be on display in the U.S. Capitol and will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for the Exhibition Opening Celebration of their artwork. The second-place winning entry will hang in Garbarino’s Washington, D.C. office for a year and the third-place winning entry will hang in the Massapequa Park District Office for a year.
