Garbarino, Davis Hold “Faith in Elections” Roundtable Discussion with Local Officials

FARMINGDALE, NY – Congressman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) and Congressman Rodney Davis (R-IL) held a roundtable discussion with local elected officials at Farmingdale Public Library as part of the House Administration Committee's newly launched, "Faith in Elections Project." Rep. Davis, Ranking Member of the Committee, came to Long Island hear from local elected officials and members of Suffolk and Nassau County Boards of Elections about how we can help restore public confidence in our election system.
Attendees of the roundtable included Assemblyman Michael Durso, Councilman Jim O’Connor, Legislator Steve Flotteron, Legislator Tom Cilmi, Commissioner Nick LaLota from the Suffolk County Board of Elections, and Scott Cushing from the Nassau County Board of Elections. The conversation centered around issues they saw as a result of changes New York State made to election laws during the pandemic and how H.R. 1, the For the People Act, would make administering elections even more difficult.
“More Americans than ever before have concerns regarding how elections are administered,” said Rep. Garbarino. “As a member of the Election Integrity Caucus, I was glad to welcome Congressman Davis to NY-02 for this inaugural discussion about resorting faith in our elections and I thank all who participated for the honest discussion about what challenges are facing New York’s election system and the importance of keeping elections in the hands of state and local officials instead of the Federal government.”
“We've launched the Faith in Elections Project bolster voter confidence in our elections system through education, engagement, and reform and to help highlight the real-life, negative impact Democrats’ legislation to nationalize our elections will have on our Democracy,” said Rep. Davis. "This week we heard from those who actually administer elections – as we have at multiple committee hearings – that H.R. 1 and H.R. 4 will be a disaster for their election process.”
This roundtable was the first in a series for the “Faith in Elections Project.” Rep. Davis followed the event in Farmingdale with similar discussions hosted by Rep. Claudia Tenney (NY-22), and Rep. John Katko (NY-24) in their respective districts.
