Garbarino Announces Winner of Congressional App Challenge
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — Today, Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino (R-NY-02) proudly announced the winner of the Congressional App Challenge (CAC) from New York’s Second District. The CAC is a national competition designed to encourage students to learn how to code through annual district-wide competitions hosted by Members of Congress.
Trevor Flores, a student at Eastport South Manor Junior-Senior High School, was selected as the winner for his app entitled Seandertale, a Roblox Lua-based survival game. Lua is a lightweight, embeddable scripting language used for programming.
“This competition is about fostering an interest in coding and STEM fields, helping to prepare students for a future defined by innovation, creativity, and critical thinking. As the world becomes increasingly digital, inspiring young minds to explore these areas equips them with the skills needed to shape the world of tomorrow,” said Rep. Garbarino. “I extend my congratulations to Mr. Flores and applaud the ingenuity and dedication evident in his game creation. His passion is truly commendable.”
About the Competition
The Congressional App Challenge is designed to engage student creativity and encourage their participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education fields. This nationwide event allows high school students from across the country to compete against their peers by creating and exhibiting their software application, or "app," for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice. The Congressional App Challenge is sponsored by the Internet Education Foundation (IEF), which assists offices in hosting the challenges in their individual districts.
