Congressman Andrew Garbarino Rejects Pelosi’s Partisan Rules Package

January 4, 2021

WASHINGTON – Congressman Andrew Garbarino (NY-2) released the following statement after opposing the rules package for the 117th Congress:

“I am extremely disappointed in Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats for dismissing the opportunity to work across the aisle to deliver real results for the American people on the first day of the 117th Congress. This partisan rules package eliminates debate and stifles free speech, threatening constitutional rights that our Founding Fathers secured for Americans centuries ago.

Amongst other things, this legislation disregards the voices of millions of Americans by silencing the minority, paves the way for the Green New Deal, and bans certain pronouns in Congress. How can we uphold the Constitution drafted by our Founding Fathers if we cannot even say the words ‘Founding Fathers?’

The great people of New York’s 2nd Congressional District trusted me to defend the Constitution, which is why I strongly oppose this radical legislation, which directly defies our American freedoms.”
